Cool Things that are Green:

Kelp is an essential member of shoreline ecosystems due to its role in fostering biodiversity and preventing coastal erosion. As an ecosystem’s main producer, kelp provides food for many fishes and invertebrates. Recently, kelp’s role in sequestering carbon has become more important as climate change becomes an increasingly pressing issue. It can potentially store around 200 million tons of carbon globally each year, about the same amount New York City emits annually. After death, kelp sinks to the deep sea where the carbon it stores remains safe from disturbance. Furthermore, kelp forests benefit humans by serving as storm buffers, fostering an abundance of marketable sea life, and acting as a food source for people.
